A Beloved Classic Reborn | Mason Pratt's MK1 GTI

“I am currently a biology major at California University of Pennsylvania and will be furthering my education at Palmer College of Chiropractics in Port Orange Florida. During breaks and days off school, I work at my uncle's excavating company to fund my projects. I currently own a 1984 VW GTI , 2004 VW Jetta GLI, 1996 Mazda Miata turbo, and a 1980 Honda CB750 super sport.

I have owned the 1984 GTI for a little over a year and a half. I purchased it almost one-hundred percent stock and not running with the full intention of doing a VR6 swap (bought the donor Jetta GLX the day before picking up the GTI). The interior was quite rotted and very moldy so the car was almost fully stripped.

...I got the stock engine running and used it as a daily for a few months while I prepped the vr6 engine to be transferred. The swap was fairly straight forward with the Eurowise stage 2+ kit that came with all the engine mounts, axles, header, and an intake.

Once the car was running perfect I started on the aesthetics. I lowered it on Raceland Ultimo coilovers, bought new wheels and tires, the VW Clipper Cabrio body kit, MK2 Recaro trophy seats, B5 Audi A4 steering wheel, wrapped the dash in white fur along with many other smaller modifications.

Overall, I wanted the car to just be a conglomeration of Audi and VW parts. Like any other project it is still far from complete. In the future, the floors and rockers will be replaced, full cage and harnesses, quad round headlight conversion, and possibly full body restoration to give the car a cleaner look.”
